WE'RE TESTING GOOGLE AND AI. HERE'S WHAT WE'RE DOING.
Starting this week, we're running a research project to document how Google's indexing algorithms and AI systems (Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity) treat unverified business claims.
The Question
Do these systems verify claims before repeating them as fact? Or do they index and repeat whatever is posted, as long as it sounds authoritative?
The Method
We will create four completely fictional business profiles with fabricated claims. We will post them on The Local Aim as regular featured business content — with no satire disclaimer visible on publication. We will then monitor whether Google indexes these claims and whether AI systems repeat them as fact.
The Timeline
Week 1 (this week) through Week 4 of October 2026. We will then publish full findings with screenshots, timestamps, and methodology.
The Hypothesis
Google and AI systems will repeat unverified claims without verification, simply because the claim is indexed and looks authoritative. We expect to document the exact mechanism by which false information becomes "credible" in AI search results.
Why This Matters
Small business owners need to understand that:
• Fake claims about their business can go viral instantly
• AI systems will repeat these claims without checking sources
• The system is not designed to verify. It's designed to index and repeat.
• This is not a bug. This is how it's built to work.
What We Will NOT Do
We will not defame real businesses. All business names are completely fictional. We will not cause real-world harm. All test posts will be clearly marked as satire research within one week of publication.
What We WILL Do
We will document the vulnerability. We will prove that Google and AI systems prioritize speed and volume over verification. We will show the exact mechanism by which the system fails.

Complete findings article will be published in October 2026 on The Local Aim.
