The article reviewed here was written by a 12-year SEO veteran and published on one of the most widely read SEO publications in the industry. Thousands of practitioners read it. Some will repeat its claims to their clients this week.
The most authoritative-sounding stat in the piece — attributed to a Forrester report — traces back to an agency marketing blog. No matching Forrester report can be located.
That is the finding worth sitting with.
Credential proximity is not credibility. A known publication, an experienced author, and a famous research firm's name were all present. The evidence was not.
The signals you are trained to trust are exactly the signals bad information hides behind. Not always by intent. By incentive. The content marketing industry rewards sounding authoritative. Nobody checks.
The question to ask every time a vendor, agency, or article puts a number in front of you: where does that number actually come from? Not who published it. Not who said it. Where is the primary source?

VERDICT: FALSE AS CITED
FINDING: This is the only specific data point in the article. It has no citation in the piece. A search for the source finds the identical stat — word for word — on a Single Grain agency ranking page, which is itself an unsourced listicle. No Forrester Wave report for the category "AI marketing agencies" can be located. Forrester Wave reports exist for digital analytics, content management, digital experience platforms, and partner marketing automation — none matching the category Taylor described.
The stat appears to have been pulled from a third-party agency marketing page and presented as if it came from a primary Forrester source. Taylor either did not read the original report or it does not exist as described. Either way, the citation chain is broken and the stat is not usable.
This is the move the desk flags most often: a number that sounds authoritative, attached to a credible brand name, with no path back to the primary source. The Forrester name does the credibility work. The report may not exist.
RECOMMENDATION: Remove from any client-facing or published content until a primary source is produced. Do not repeat this stat.
OVERALL ASSESSMENT
The article's directional argument — that AI search changes how content gets selected and cited — is consistent with observable trends and supported by external data Taylor chose not to use. The shift from authorship to retrieval is a legitimate frame worth understanding.
